The Executive Board has now completed the process of installing the new internet based association management system we will be using to provide members with information about our Association, upcoming events and signing up for the Annual Banquet and Golf Outing.  You now will also be able to pay your annual dues online as well as correspond directly with other members through this system.  This year we will be having our Golf Outing on June 6th from which the proceeds will fund our annual scholarship program.  Also this year, our Annual Banquet, to be held in October, will give a Life Time Achievement Award to Past President M. Michael Giacoppo and our St. Michaels Award to Larry Lucchino of the Boston Red Sox.

Other news effecting the Association is the establishment of an outreach program to add new members as well as bringing on liaisons at a number of various law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth to represent the Association within their departments to support us in signing up new members and advance our major programs.  Finally, I will be asking each of you to help the Board set objectives and goals for our organization.  To this end, please expect to receive a survey that I am hoping all members will take the time to fill out and send back to us so that as an organization we can all be united in shaping the Association going forward.  Our hope is that the survey will provide you a means to make suggestions on how to improve on communications with you and expand our efforts in supporting our profession and honoring our heritage.

As we indicated in our letter to you at the end of last year, we have been working diligently to institute our new online association management software system.  This system will allow us to better communicate with each of you and provide a platform for the association to announce our events, functions and activities.  To facilitate this new upgrade as well as to allow our organization to sponsor additional activities and support for our members and their families we feel it is necessary to increase the annual dues by $5.00 per year for a total of $35.00.  The dues have not been raised in almost 20 years and we think that with this modest increase we can insure the growth and long term aspirations of the association.

At the bottom of this letter please find the link to log into the new Association website.  When you are at the login page, please use your email address as the login name and click on "reset password”.  This will allow you to set up your own password for the site.  Once logged in, please click on "Renew My Dues”.

From there you can pay your annual dues by debit/credit card (If you wish to pay by check, please check the box "My Dues Renewal" and see the instructions below).  Once complete, this will activate your membership for the year and continue your accidental death insurance policy with the Association.  After paying or printing out the invoice, please review your "My Account” to make sure that your contact information is correct including your rank and agency (for your ID) as well as the "Insurance Beneficiary” for your accidental life policy (Note, if the box indicates "Yes" please fill in the name of your beneficiary and delete the "Yes").  Please make any corrections or additions to your account directly in your account profile so we have the most current information for you.  You will also see a check box about half way down that is checked for "Directory Exclusion".

By default, all members have been excluded from sharing their information with other members of the Association.  We encourage members to use the site to communicate with each other as well as use the posting features of the site to let each other know about job listings, law changes and other information that may be useful.  To allow other members to communicate directly with you, you will need to uncheck that box or if you prefer to keep your information private, leave the box checked. Note, all information is only accessible to members of the Association and NOT the general public.  Remember to click the "Update Account" button at the bottom to save your work.

Please let us know if you have any questions by sending an email to admin@itapo.org and we will get right back to you.  You can also call us at the telephone number below.

In 1968 three men, Domenic Mulattieri, Joseph Saia Sr. and Tony Narsiso, formed this organization.  They had the simple goal of promoting the upward mobility of their members who had been passed over for promotion and to honor their Italian Heritage.  For almost fifty years this organization has represented the best interests of law enforcement as well as the recognition of the sacrifices our elders made in coming to this great country.  Only in America may the grandson of an immigrant from the hills of Calabria become a high ranking official in a law enforcement agency and serve with the great group of people that make up the Massachusetts Association of Italian American Police Officers.  Please continue to support our efforts to support you.

Be safe out there!

Martin Gabriella, President
Superintendent. Middlesex Sheriff’s Office [Ret.]
